Team DMTC Projects
The
"Caddy" Project
Our
second project was our first effort at a major system overhaul. We
chose to upgrade the system in our 1986 Cadillac Sedan DeVille. We
decided to concentrate on sound quality for this vehicle due to luxury
car's inherently low noise level. However, it still had to
have
plenty of bass!
Once
again
the Mobile Electronics Competition Association (MECA) had a division
for vehicles just like this one. Since we modified the factory
speaker placement, this project is a perfect for the MECAs SQL
"Modified"
Division. In this division you can move speakers from the
factory location but
you must be able to return the car to factory specs.
The system includes an
Alpine Receiver, a 9-Band Kicker
equalizer, Infinity Kappa component speaker system, Infinity Kappa 3-way coaxials, Infinity Reference 4-channel amp, two
Kicker 400W mono channel amps, two Kicker CompVR 12" subs, and two Tsunami stiffening
capacitors.
The
major modifications included door speaker mounting, A-pillar mounted
tweeters, fender well mounting of bass amps, and installing a false
floor in the trunk to allow for mounting of subwoofer enclosure and the
4-channel amp for the door speakers.
We are currently working on an upgrade to this
vehicle
which includes all new Monster Cable
wiring to improve power and signal delivery. In addition, we will be
adding some neons in the trunk as well as the interior. Lastly, we hope
to have this vehicle re-painted and tint applied to the windows.Plan to check out the new improved version of this vehicle at Team DMTCs second annual "Rock the School House!" MECA competition this spring.
