The Mobile Electronics program here at Daniel Morgan Technology Center (DMTC) is a two-year program consisting of four semester long courses. These courses are designed to introduce students to the exciting world of electronics with an emphasis on mobile applications like car audio.
The
first year
(Mobile
Electronics A &
B) is designed as an introductory course into the exciting world of
electronics and
technology in general. After an introduction into
safety practices, we will begin with basic electronics
concentrating on DC and AC circuits, while learning numerous "hands-on"
skills such as soldering and test equipment usage. We will also take a
look at basic
installation techniques for various types car audio equipment.
The
second year (Advanced Mobile Electronics
A & B) will delve deeper into Basic
Electronics and car audio systems. After a review of
concepts already covered, we will look at semiconductor devices and
integrated circuits. We will also look closer at car audio
components, including audio amplifiers and signal processing. In
addition, we will look at more advanced car stereo installation
techniques. Proper test equipment usage is emphasized throughout the entire program.
Although mobile applications (such as car stereos) are discussed, this is first and foremost an electronics class. Students can use this training to pursue numerous post-secondary options such as electronics technician training at numerous community colleges throughout the state and/or an electrical engineer training at either of the two major universities in South Carolina.
